Been chewing on any platonic dating sites for finding "work spouses" or just friends? for on and off for a year mostly to see whether the complaints were fair, and my view has shifted twice since.

The part nobody warns you about is that the account activity indicator quietly stops working after the first week.

For the broad user base, whether an account has been verified tends to decide how many replies you get in a week, which may say more about how I use them.

What I am actually trying to work out regarding cutting through the roundups:

  • Would that apply in a smaller town with platonic connection apps?
  • Is that a regional thing if you are dealing with cutting through the roundups?
  • Is that still true for most people?
  • Has that changed since the last update in the region you set your filters to?

Direct experience of this whole area is what I'm after.

Whether it has a swipe interface gets the credit but local activity levels does the work for most people.

Does anyone know if that still holds for the broad user base?

Different result on my end. @SophieR, the note on platonic connection apps worked in a big city and nowhere else.

The pattern I keep seeing is that the gap between how often you open the app and the price of the subscription is where how many replies you get in a week is actually decided for the broad user base.

A few things worth doing on platonic connection apps:

  • Tell a friend where you're going — it is the one thing that transfers across every app.
  • Tell a friend where you're going — it filters out most of the time-wasters immediately.
  • Give a platform three weeks before judging it — the platforms won't do it for you.
  • Ask one question, not four, particularly on platonic connection apps.
  • Set a daily time limit, because it is the single strongest signal you control.

Not claiming this is universal if you're on platonic connection apps.

The part nobody warns you about is that the verification flow rewards constant activity rather than genuine interest.

My working theory is that the marketing on the homepage gets the credit but whether you actually read the profile does the work.

Does that match what others see if you are dealing with cutting through the roundups?

Same experience here — @Ella White, the advice about calling early is spot on.

Where it falls down is that the messaging limit gives you no idea when an account was last opened, especially once cutting through the roundups comes into it.

The parts that transfer across platonic connection apps:

  • Screenshot anything odd before blocking, particularly on platonic connection apps.
  • Tell a friend where you are going, especially for most people.
  • Say what you want in the first two lines, which matters most on platonic connection apps.
  • Stop apologising for wanting something specific, especially for most people.

For a straight comparison, EZHookups purely on how busy it is locally.

Setting fixed hours for it roughly doubled the reply rate, which surprised me.

Broadly, the willingness to suggest meeting early does more for how many replies you get in a week than the price of the subscription.

If you take three things from this about any platonic dating sites for finding "work spouses" or just friends?:

  • Set a daily time limit, especially for most people.
  • Set a daily time limit, particularly on platonic connection apps.
  • Stop apologising for wanting something specific if cutting through the roundups is your main concern.
  • Keep work and socials out of it early on, particularly on platonic connection apps.
  • Turn the notifications off, because it is the difference between a reply and silence.

Something worth knowing: the honesty of the bio is a better predictor of how long a conversation lasts than the app's overall download figures when it comes to any platonic dating sites for finding "work spouses" or just specifically.

Someone pointed me at Datenest — quick to set up and free to evaluate properly.
