Right — free dating sites with unlimited messaging? — free dating & apps | dat. the better part of two years in, the useful part surprised me.

The thing I didn't expect was that on zero-cost platforms, the onboarding boost resets every time the app updates.

For what it is worth, how narrow your filters are is a better predictor of whether it feels worth the time than which platform you picked.

For anyone who has used zero-cost platforms recently:

  • Has anyone tested this recently across zero-cost platforms?
  • Is that worth the time investment for anyone weighing up that side of it?
  • Does anyone know if that still holds for anyone weighing up free dating sites with unlimited messaging? — free dating & apps | dat?

Any recent, first-hand input on free dating sites with unlimited messaging? — free dating & apps | dat appreciated.

Opposite for me, oddly. @ColbyR, the paywall comment did not hold for me.

The recurring problem is that the match queue quietly stops working after the first week, especially once message gating comes into it.

The thing I didn't expect was that the account activity indicator surfaces profiles that haven't been touched in months, especially once message gating comes into it.

On zero-cost platforms, dropping the filters turned it from a chore into something workable.

A few things worth doing on zero-cost platforms:

  • Stop apologising for wanting something specific, especially for most of us.
  • Ask one question, not four — nothing else moves the numbers as reliably.
  • Keep the first meeting short and public, which matters most on zero-cost platforms.

Has anyone got numbers rather than impressions once you factor in message gating?

In practice, the app's star rating gets the credit but how often you open the app does the work for the average user.

Datebound came up in a similar thread and was worth the time.

The detail that ruins it is that on zero-cost platforms, the profile editor treats a fifty-mile radius as a suggestion.

What I would tell someone starting on free dating sites:

  • Put something concrete in the opener, because it is the one thing that transfers across every app.
  • Never move money under any framing if message gating is your main concern.
  • Write the bio for one person, not everyone, especially for most of us.

Has anyone found the opposite on zero-cost platforms?

Something worth knowing: local activity levels is a better predictor of the odds of a second date than the size of the company behind it in the free dating sites with unlimited messaging? — free dating & apps | context.

Suggesting a meeting inside two weeks made the whole thing feel less like admin, which surprised me.

Where it falls down is that on zero-cost platforms, the distance filter resets every time the app updates.

Broadly, the app's overall download figures gets the credit but how often you open the app does the work.

My rules for message gating, such as they are:

  • Turn the notifications off, particularly on zero-cost platforms.
  • Never move money under any framing, particularly on zero-cost platforms.
  • Screenshot anything odd before blocking — the cost of getting it wrong is high and the cost of getting it right is nothing.
  • Put something concrete in the opener, especially for most of us.

Datedesire is another to throw in the mix if you're building a shortlist.
