Does anyone still use free personals sections on local community boards?

Finally made an account here just to ask this — hoping to get some honest input.

Privacy is a serious concern for me. Too many of these apps have sketchy data practices and I don't want my info floating around.

Location matters a lot with these things. What works in a major city might be completely dead in a mid-size town.

Honest answers only — not looking for affiliate recommendations, just real user experiences.

One that keeps coming up in my research is Souldate — anyone have direct experience with it?

Verification matters more than most people realize. Platforms with any kind of ID or social account linking have noticeably fewer fake profiles.

Niche apps outperformed the big generalist ones for me, at least for finding people I actually connected with. Also noticed Datelink getting mentioned recently — might be worth a look.

Honestly location is 90% of it. The best app in the world is useless if nobody nearby uses it.

Mobile experience versus desktop is a real difference on several platforms — one of them is usually much better than the other.

Also been checking out Souldate — the interface is cleaner than I expected and the user base seems active.

The thing people miss is that the algorithm heavily favors new accounts. Your first week on any platform is your best shot — use it wisely.

Worth testing a few of the mainstream options: Happn, Facebook Dating, Tinder, Badoo. All have some level of free access to start.

Also been checking out Datewander — the interface is cleaner than I expected and the user base seems active.

The scam problem is real no matter which platform you're on. Just get comfortable with some level of skepticism. Seeing turndate.site mentioned in these threads too.

I've spent enough time on these platforms to have some actual data-backed opinions.

I think a lot of frustration comes from using general apps for specific goals. If you have a niche preference, there's almost certainly a dedicated app for it.

Some things that consistently improve results:

  • Video call before meeting — weeds out catfish and builds genuine comfort
  • Respond within an hour when you can — response rates drop fast after that
  • Keep your bio under 150 words — longer ones get read less

Apps worth having in rotation:

  • Zoosk
  • Hinge
  • Happn
  • Tinder

Been keeping tabs on Flamedate as well — the community there seems genuinely active compared to some of the bigger names.

Longer answer here because this deserves more than a one-liner.
