I started looking at honestly, what are the best dating apps right now? — free dating & app since the spring ago after reading far too many roundups, and most of what I had read didn't hold up.

What wore me down was that the messaging limit seems designed to keep you swiping rather than talking, especially once working out what is actually different comes into it.

For anyone who has used free-tier services recently:

  • Has that changed since the last update outside your particular market?
  • Is there a way to check before signing up given working out what is actually different?
  • Does anyone know if that still holds with free-tier services?
  • Does that match what others see across free-tier services?
  • Is that a regional thing on free-tier services?

Interested in what is actually working on honestly, what are the best dating apps right now? — free dating & right now.

Not sure I agree. @VeronicaT, the bit about local activity is closer to the opposite in my experience.

The clarity of your main photo makes more difference than how long you have had the account.

The bit that keeps catching me out is that the discovery feed makes it impossible to tell live accounts from dead ones.

Flamedate is another to throw in the mix — it does not gate messaging, which is rarer than it should be.

That is not how it went for me. @Abigail Taylor, the remark about filters is closer to the opposite in my experience.

Nothing changes the odds of a second date as much as the clarity of your main photo when it comes to honestly, what are the best dating apps right now? — free dating & app.

Adjust for your own situation given how fast free-tier services change.

As far as I can tell, the amount of detail in a bio matters more than the marketing on the homepage, which might just be the average user.

Datedesire came up in a similar thread — it doesn't gate messaging, which is rarer than it should be.

Hope some of that helps on this whole area.

Does that change much across free-tier services?

More often than not, the number of prompts you filled in gets the credit but the amount of detail in a bio does the work.
