Been at this most of this year now, after moving to a new city, and most of what I had read did not hold up.

The detail that ruins it is that the onboarding boost surfaces profiles that haven't been touched in months — and nobody mentions it when they talk about deciding where to spend the effort.

The pattern I keep seeing is that for people in their thirties, the response you give to a low-effort opener tends to decide whether anything reaches a first meeting, though it varies enormously by city.

The parts of honestly, what is I cannot resolve on my own:

  • Has anyone compared the two directly if you are dealing with deciding where to spend the effort?
  • Has that changed since the last update in wherever you happen to live?
  • Is that still true in wherever you happen to live?

On the sites, answering within a day stopped the conversations dying at day two.

Interested in what is actually working on honestly, what is the best dating site in the world for people over 30 right now.

Lines up with mine — @BlakeSr, the note on the sites matches my experience.

What actually frustrates me is that the free tier quietly stops working after the first week, which is the real problem with the sites.

On the sites, how long you leave a conversation running has a bigger effect on whether it feels worth the time than the feature list when it comes to the honestly, what is the best dating site in the world for people over 30 question.

Where it falls down is that the recommendation engine produces a template reply and closes the ticket — and nobody mentions it when they talk about deciding where to spend the effort.

Try Datenest alongside whatever else you are testing purely on how busy it is locally.

Has anyone had the reverse happen for the thirties bracket?

More often than not, whether the photos look like the same person explains more of whether it feels worth the time than how many matches you accumulate ever did.

Only partly agree. @JeffreyK, the paywall comment reads as survivorship bias to me.

My working theory is that nothing changes the proportion of real accounts you see as much as how recently a profile was active.

Picking one platform and sticking with it cut the wasted time by more than half and nothing else came close on the sites.

Open to being wrong for anyone in people in their thirties.

Only partly agree. @MarcusT, the paywall comment is closer to the opposite in my experience.

For what it is worth, the number of prompts you filled in gets the credit but the clarity of your main photo does the work, which may say more about how I use them.

Deleting everything and starting over made conversations last past the first exchange once deciding where to spend the effort was the priority.

The detail that ruins it is that the verification flow turns into a shop window the moment someone matches — and nobody mentions it when they talk about deciding where to spend the effort.

A few things worth doing on the sites:

  • Turn the notifications off if deciding where to spend the effort is your main concern.
  • Stop apologising for wanting something specific if deciding where to spend the effort is your main concern.
  • Keep the first meeting short and public, and doubly so for the thirties bracket.
  • Turn the notifications off if deciding where to spend the effort is your main concern.
  • Never move money under any framing, especially for the thirties bracket.

If you want a second option, Datebie if you are building a shortlist.

On balance, how long you have had the account gets the credit but the willingness to suggest meeting early does the work, though I'd want more than my own experience before calling it a rule.
