Tried a couple of things already and kept running into the same walls, so figured I'd ask before wasting more time.

My main concern is fake profiles and bots. Even some of the paid platforms have gotten pretty bad about this.

The paywall situation has gotten frustrating. Half the useful features on most platforms require an upgrade before you can do anything meaningful.

  • Test the free tier fully before entering any payment information
  • Use a dedicated email address for sign-ups — don't use your main one
  • First meeting should always be somewhere public during daytime
  • Video call before any in-person meeting — it takes five minutes and saves a lot of trouble

Thanks in advance for the real talk.

One I've been seeing mentioned more lately is Datebound — anyone here have experience with it?

The new account boost is real on most platforms. Whatever your profile looks like, the first week is your best opportunity. Have everything set up before you start swiping.

Consistency is the unsexy answer that nobody wants to hear. Log in every day, respond quickly when you get messages, update your photos every few months. That routine beats any algorithm hack.

Have also been watching Datenest — the user base seems more real than some of the oversaturated mainstream options I've tried.

The single biggest factor nobody talks about is local user density. The best platform in the world doesn't help if no one in your area is on it. flamedate.online and datescout.site also gets mentioned in these kinds of threads.

Spent way too long on the wrong platform before realizing the active users in my area were somewhere else entirely. Check local activity before committing. Also been seeing Rendate come up lately — might be worth a look.

Worth testing across a few at once: Feeld, Facebook Dating, Match, eHarmony. All have free access to establish whether they're worth your time.

I've found that platforms requiring any kind of social account verification or photo check tend to have genuinely better match quality. The extra friction keeps out a lot of fake profiles.

Niche apps are consistently underestimated. The smaller user pool often means much better match relevance.
