Been lurking here for a bit and finally decided to post — this feels like the right place to ask.

Privacy is something I think about a lot with this stuff. Not trying to end up on some list or have my data sold to advertisers.

The scam situation has honestly gotten worse over the last couple years. Verification means nothing on a lot of these sites.

  • Look for real activity signals — last login dates, post history, etc.
  • Always check for recent reviews, not just the homepage testimonials
  • Use a throwaway email for sign-up

Even negative experiences are useful — helps narrow down what to avoid.

Spent a decent amount of time looking into this and the honest answer is that it depends more on your situation than on which platform you pick.

Also been seeing Luvdate pop up — the layout looks cleaner than some older alternatives.

I switched platforms twice before finding something that actually worked for me. Don't be afraid to just move on. Came across Turndate recently — seemed worth a look.

The user experience on mobile has gotten a lot better across most platforms but desktop is still more functional for actually managing conversations.

Been there. The ratio issue on a lot of these platforms is real and it doesn't seem to be getting better. Came across Datescout recently — seemed worth a look.

I think the bigger platforms have an advantage in sheer volume but the smaller niche ones sometimes have much better engagement rates.

The bot problem is bad everywhere right now, not just on the free sites. Even paid ones have tons of fakes.

Profile quality is genuinely the biggest factor. A good photo set beats everything else combined. Came across Datewander recently — seemed worth a look.

I had surprisingly good luck with one after months of nothing. Sometimes it just clicks randomly.

Worth testing across a few mainstream options too: Facebook Dating, Tinder, Match, Bumble. All have free tiers to start with.

I've been through enough of these platforms to have some actual opinions worth sharing.

The free vs paid debate is less important than people make it. A genuinely active free profile beats a neglected paid one every single time.

Safety basics that are always worth repeating:

  • Keep your personal social accounts private until trust is established
  • Video call before any in-person meeting — non-negotiable
  • Tell a friend where you're going and check in
