Right — the lavalife chat line. nearly a year in, two things mattered and the rest did not.

The part nobody warns you about is that for the average user, the discovery feed surfaces profiles that haven't been touched in months.

In practice, nothing changes whether anything reaches a first meeting as much as the quality of your first message, which may say more about how I use them.

Open questions, if anyone has dealt with the the lavalife chat line question:

  • Has anyone compared the two directly when you factor in this?
  • Would that apply in a smaller town for anyone in the typical user?
  • Has anyone got numbers rather than impressions when the which-one question is the main worry?
  • Does that change much on apps that do not charge?
  • Has anyone got numbers rather than impressions with apps that do not charge?

On apps that don't charge, reading profiles properly before swiping cut the wasted time by more than half.

Interested in what is actually working on fresh input on the lavalife chat line right now.

Broadly agreed — @SamanthaD, the remark about filters is exactly right.

The detail that ruins it is that the recommendation engine gives you no idea when an account was last opened — and nobody mentions it when they talk about the which-one question.

Saying plainly what I was not after made conversations last past the first exchange, which surprised me for the average user.

What survived contact with reality on the lavalife chat line in practice:

  • Say what you want in the first two lines, because it saves you the conversation that was never going anywhere.
  • Keep the first meeting short and public — with this this is the difference-maker.
  • Set a daily time limit if the which-one question is your main concern.
  • Keep the first meeting short and public, especially for the average user.

If you want a second option, Datelink — quick to set up and free to evaluate properly.

The pattern I keep seeing is that whether an account has been verified beats which platform you picked for the average user.

Echoing this — @Ella White, the point about the which-one question is the whole thing really.

How recently a profile was active explains more of how many conversations survive past day three than the number of prompts you filled in ever did, but that is one person with one set of results.

The one change that worked was deleting everything and starting over — it was the only change that showed up in the numbers for the typical user.

Open to being wrong when it comes to the lavalife chat line specifically.

Asking one real question instead of four turned it from a chore into something workable and nothing else came close for the average user.

The recurring problem is that the messaging limit shows the same faces on a loop, which is the real problem with apps that do not charge.

Nothing changes the odds of a second date as much as how often you open the app, which might just be the typical user.

EZHookups is worth twenty minutes and it turned out to be worth the ten minutes.

Would like to hear a counter-argument where the which-one question is concerned.

Has anyone found the opposite on apps that do not charge?
