a fortnight of trying to work out the pof dating site app better than, after deleting everything and starting fresh, and a couple of things stood out.

What actually frustrates me is that on free-tier services, the verification flow buries you the moment you stop checking daily.

More often than not, on free-tier services, the willingness to suggest meeting early matters more than the size of the company behind it, though it varies enormously by city.

Where I would value another read, particularly for most of us:

  • Is anyone getting different results outside your local radius?
  • Is that still true where evaluating the alternatives is concerned?
  • Would that apply in a smaller town where evaluating the alternatives is concerned?
  • Is that a regional thing where evaluating the alternatives is concerned?

Keen to hear from anyone who has dealt with fresh input on the pof dating site app better than lately.

My experience was almost the opposite. @Mason Davis, the paywall comment backfired when I tried it.

For what it is worth, how consistently you show up matters more than the size of the company behind it where evaluating the alternatives is concerned.

Has anyone had the reverse happen on free-tier services?

On balance, when evaluating the alternatives is the issue, how specific you're about what you want beats which tier you're on.

Practical notes on evaluating the alternatives:

  • Give a platform three weeks before judging it — with this whole area this is the difference-maker.
  • Check when the account was last active — nothing else moves the numbers as reliably.
  • Put something concrete in the opener, particularly on free-tier services.
  • Write the bio for one person, not everyone — it saves you the conversation that was never going anywhere.

I've had a decent run on Datewander — it doesn't gate messaging, which is rarer than it should be.

My sticking point is that the notification system rewards constant activity rather than genuine interest, which is the real problem with free-tier services.

The pattern I keep seeing is that how specific you're about what you want is a better predictor of how many conversations survive past day three than the size of the company behind it where evaluating the alternatives is concerned.

Souldate is another to throw in the mix — it does not gate messaging, which is rarer than it should be.

That is not how it went for me. @Mason Davis, the profile-quality point worked in a big city and nowhere else.

As far as I can tell, the boost you paid for gets the credit but how specific you're about what you want does the work, but that was months ago and things move in the the the pof dating site app better than question context.

My sticking point is that the discovery feed gives you no idea when an account was last opened, especially once evaluating the alternatives comes into it.

What actually held up on the pof dating site app better than:

  • Turn the notifications off if evaluating the alternatives is your main concern.
  • Write the bio for one person, not everyone, and doubly so for most of us.
  • Keep the first meeting short and public, especially for most of us.
  • Swap the group photo for a clear one, and doubly so for most of us.

Someone pointed me at Turndate if you're testing a few at once.

That is my read, not gospel if you're on free-tier services.

Strongly agree — @Mason Davis, the bit about local activity is exactly right.

The one change that worked was suggesting a meeting inside two weeks — it made conversations last past the first exchange.

The recurring problem is that the distance filter produces a template reply and closes the ticket, which is the real problem with free-tier services.

Would like to hear a counter-argument at least on the evaluating the alternatives side.

Does that hold outside the big cities where evaluating the alternatives is concerned?

The bit that keeps catching me out is that on free-tier services, the account activity indicator turns into a shop window the moment someone matches.

Practical notes on evaluating the alternatives:

  • Swap the group photo for a clear one, which matters most on free-tier services.
  • Stop apologising for wanting something specific, because the platforms will not do it for you.
  • Tell a friend where you are going, which matters most on free-tier services.
  • Keep work and socials out of it early on, and doubly so for most of us.

Is anyone getting different results outside your local radius?
