Right — best dating sites for nerds? — niche & community dating | datingfly co. half a year in, I am less certain than when I started.

Where it falls down is that the search function rewards constant activity rather than genuine interest — and nobody mentions it when they talk about sorting the shortlist.

Something worth knowing: the quality of your first message counts for more than the size of the company behind it.

Saying plainly what I wasn't after turned it from a chore into something workable and nothing else came close.

After first-hand experience with best dating sites, not marketing copy.

Can confirm — @TrentH, the remark about filters is exactly right.

For what it is worth, nothing changes whether anything reaches a first meeting as much as the response you give to a low-effort opener on web dating services.

If you take three things from this about best dating sites for nerds? — niche & community dating | datingfl:

  • Move to a voice or video call early — it is the single strongest signal you control.
  • Put something concrete in the opener, which matters most on web dating services.
  • Screenshot anything odd before blocking, and doubly so for interest-led daters.

The detail that ruins it is that the photo verification step makes it impossible to tell live accounts from dead ones, especially once sorting the shortlist comes into it.

Dropping the filters turned it from a chore into something workable and nothing else came close.

Datedesire is another to throw in the mix — sign-up is quick and the free tier is genuinely usable.

That is not how it went for me. @TrentH, the point about sorting the shortlist reads as survivorship bias to me.

More often than not, when sorting the shortlist is the issue, how narrow your filters are outweighs which tier you're on.

The recurring problem is that on web dating services, the search function collapses once you move outside a major city.

The one change that worked was saying plainly what I was not after — it made the whole thing feel less like admin.

I have had a decent run on Flamedate purely on how busy it is locally.

Seconding this — @ReedC, the remark about filters is the part people miss.

The thing I did not expect was that the match queue ignores about half of what you set, especially once sorting the shortlist comes into it.

More often than not, whether you actually read the profile is a better predictor of whether it feels worth the time than the price of the subscription.

Worth testing rather than taking my word across web dating services generally.
