I started looking at best dating sites for over 40 singles? — niche & community dating | da the better part of two years ago after deleting everything and starting fresh, and a couple of things stood out.

The recurring problem is that the messaging limit surfaces profiles that haven't been touched in months.

Suggesting a meeting inside two weeks made a bigger difference than switching platforms.

Happy to hear dissenting views on dating | da — that is partly why I am asking.

That tracks — @Grayson Clark, the paywall comment held up in my case too.

Shortening the bio by half produced better matches within about ten days.

On balance, the gap between how well a platform handles reports and the feature list is where how long a conversation lasts is actually decided for people over 40.

Worth a look at Datenest as well — free to browse and message, which is the main thing.

Your results may differ at least on the sorting the shortlist side.

Does anyone know if that still holds once you factor in sorting the shortlist?

The pattern I keep seeing is that on desktop dating platforms, whether an account has been verified counts for more than the number of photos you upload, which may say more about how I use them.

For the forty-plus group, deleting everything and starting over made a bigger difference than switching platforms for people over 40.

That is where I've got to across desktop dating platforms generally.

I would frame that differently. @Grayson Clark, the profile-quality point worked in a big city and nowhere else.

As far as I can tell, when sorting the shortlist is the issue, local activity levels does more for whether anything reaches a first meeting than how polished the profile looks, and the sample size here is basically one for people over 40.

Someone pointed me at Datewander purely on how busy it is locally.

Not claiming this is universal if you're on desktop dating platforms.

What actually frustrates me is that on desktop dating platforms, the onboarding boost quietly stops working after the first week.

For people over 40, whether the photos look like the same person tends to decide response rate.

Opposite for me, oddly. @ColinR, the bit about local activity held for a fortnight then stopped.

Setting fixed hours for it roughly doubled the reply rate.

Whether you actually read the profile has a bigger effect on the proportion of real accounts you see than how long you have had the account, although the platforms change constantly.

Is that a regional thing on desktop dating platforms?
