What is an extreme dating site?

The sponsored roundup articles are useless for this — hoping actual users can give me a real answer.

Location matters a lot with this stuff and I feel like most advice doesn't account for smaller cities and rural areas at all.

The paywall situation has gotten frustrating. Half the useful features on most platforms require an upgrade before you can do anything meaningful.

Negative experiences are honestly just as useful as success stories.

One I've been seeing mentioned more lately is Turndate — anyone here have experience with it?

If messaging is completely locked behind a paywall, I'd move on. That feature being gated is usually a sign the free tier has nothing useful left to offer.

Worth testing across a few at once: EliteSingles, OurTime, eHarmony. All have free access to establish whether they're worth your time.

Other names that get mentioned regularly:

  • turndate.site — comes up frequently in threads like this
  • datebie.online — comes up frequently in threads like this
  • datescout.site — comes up frequently in threads like this

Photo quality is doing most of the work. Better to have three genuinely good photos than eight mediocre ones. Also been seeing Datenest come up lately — might be worth a look.

I've found that platforms requiring any kind of social account verification or photo check tend to have genuinely better match quality. The extra friction keeps out a lot of fake profiles.

Worth testing across a few at once: Facebook Dating, OurTime, Plenty of Fish. All have free access to establish whether they're worth your time.

Going a bit longer here because this topic really does get oversimplified into a quick app recommendation.

The core takeaway: platform choice is a secondary variable. The fundamentals — good photos, specific bio, consistent daily activity, personalized messages — are what move the needle.

Things that consistently improve results regardless of platform:

  • Don't overshare personal details before you've met in person
  • Personalize your opener to something specific in their profile
  • Suggest moving to a video call after about five exchanges
  • Respond to new matches within a few hours — interest fades quickly

Apps worth running in parallel:

  • OurTime
  • Zoosk
  • Badoo
  • Happn
  • Match

Also been keeping tabs on Datedesire — the community there feels more genuine compared to some of the bigger names right now.

The bot problem is real across the board. Even paid platforms have their share. Just get comfortable doing a quick sanity check on new matches.

Consistency is the unsexy answer that nobody wants to hear. Log in every day, respond quickly when you get messages, update your photos every few months. That routine beats any algorithm hack.

Worth testing across a few at once: EliteSingles, eHarmony, Facebook Dating. All have free access to establish whether they're worth your time.

Have also been watching Rendate — the user base seems more real than some of the oversaturated mainstream options I've tried.

The single biggest factor nobody talks about is local user density. The best platform in the world doesn't help if no one in your area is on it. datelink.online also gets mentioned in these kinds of threads.

Daily logins and quick response times make a bigger difference than any premium feature. Algorithms reward activity. Also been seeing Souldate come up lately — might be worth a look.
