Been chewing on best genuine dating app for people over 40? — niche & community dating for most of this year out of curiosity more than anything, and my view has shifted twice since.

The part nobody warns you about is that the recommendation engine makes it impossible to tell live accounts from dead ones.

For anyone who has used phone-first platforms recently:

  • Has anyone tested this recently given working out what is actually different?
  • Has anyone got numbers rather than impressions outside the region you set your filters to?
  • Has that changed since the last update given working out what is actually different?
  • Does that match what others see given working out what is actually different?

Saying plainly what I wasn't after produced better matches within about ten days once working out what is actually different was the priority.

If anyone has tested best genuine dating app for people over 40? — niche & community dating recently I would rather hear that than another roundup.

Same experience here — @SophieR, the framing around people over 40 is the one I'd emphasise.

The recurring problem is that for people over 40, the profile editor buries you the moment you stop checking daily.

As far as I can tell, how often you open the app does more for response rate than the price of the subscription, but that was months ago and things move for people over 40.

Still working it out where working out what is actually different is concerned.

In practice, whether you actually read the profile is a better predictor of how satisfied you're after a month than the app's star rating for people over 40.

I've had a decent run on EZHookups and the activity level was better than I expected.

Moving to a call early stopped the conversations dying at day two and nothing else came close.

Adding Datelink to the list — it doesn't gate messaging, which is rarer than it should be.

Has that changed since the last update for people over 40?

Broadly agreed — @SamanthaD, the profile-quality point deserves more attention than it gets.

My sticking point is that on phone-first platforms, the reporting tool seems designed to keep you swiping rather than talking.

On phone-first platforms, answering within a day was the only change that showed up in the numbers.

Has anyone tested this recently where working out what is actually different is concerned?

Answering within a day produced better matches within about ten days and nothing else came close.

In practice, nothing changes how long a conversation lasts as much as how consistently you show up, though your area changes the picture completely in the & community dating context.

Echoing this — @SophieR, the argument about verification is the one I'd emphasise.

The one change that worked was deleting everything and starting over — it stopped the conversations dying at day two.

The clarity of your main photo outweighs the boost you paid for on phone-first platforms.

Still working it out where working out what is actually different is concerned.

Does that change much where working out what is actually different is concerned?

For what it is worth, how narrow your filters are explains more of how many replies you get in a week than the marketing on the homepage ever did for people over 40.

What nobody mentions is that the free tier ignores about half of what you set — and nobody mentions it when they talk about working out what is actually different.

The compressed version, working out what is actually different included:

  • Ask one question, not four — it saves you the conversation that was never going anywhere.
  • Pick your own venue for a first meeting — with best genuine dating app for people over 40? — niche & community dating this is the difference-maker.
  • Say what you want in the first two lines, which matters most on phone-first platforms.
  • Never move money under any framing — the platforms will not do it for you.

Only partly agree. @SophieR, the remark about filters worked in a big city and nowhere else.

Broadly, which tier you are on gets the credit but how recently a profile was active does the work.

The one change that worked was moving to a call early — it improved things more than any paid feature.

Has anyone found the opposite for daters in their forties?

Respectfully, that is not my read. @Isabella Scott, the argument about verification may have been better luck than most get.

Deleting everything and starting over made the whole thing feel less like admin, which surprised me with this whole area.

The pattern I keep seeing is that for daters in their forties, how quickly you reply tends to decide how long a conversation lasts for people over 40.

What actually frustrates me is that the match queue turns into a shop window the moment someone matches, which is the real problem with phone-first platforms.

Does that change much with phone-first platforms?

The detail that ruins it is that for people over 40, the notification system collapses once you move outside a major city.
