Posting this after an embarrassing amount of time on best way to find a hookup without using an app? — free dating & apps | — the answer seems to depend heavily on where you live.

The thing I didn't expect was that on short-term apps, the messaging limit rewards constant activity rather than genuine interest.

The pattern I keep seeing is that the gap between the quality of your first message and the app's overall download figures is where response rate is actually decided.

Specifically, on best way to find a hookup without using an app? — free dating & ap specifically, what I would like input on:

  • Is that a regional thing across short-term apps?
  • Would that apply in a smaller town across short-term apps?
  • Is there a way to check before signing up if you are dealing with narrowing the options?

Interested in what is actually working on best way to right now.

My working theory is that the gap between whether the photos look like the same person and how polished the profile looks is where how long a conversation lasts is actually decided, although the platforms change constantly.

Things I wish someone had said about best way to find a hookup without using an app? — free dating & ap specifically:

  • Check when the account was last active if narrowing the options is your main concern.
  • Tell a friend where you're going, which matters most on short-term apps.
  • Set a daily time limit, because it saves you the conversation that was never going anywhere.
  • Say what you want in the first two lines if narrowing the options is your main concern.

That is where I've got to where narrowing the options is concerned.

Has anyone tested this recently on short-term apps?

For the average user, deleting everything and starting over stopped the conversations dying at day two.

Something worth knowing: whether you actually read the profile is a better predictor of response rate than the number of prompts you filled in.

Datenest is the other one I would put on a shortlist.

Can confirm — @Noah Williams, the bit about local activity held up in my case too.

On short-term apps, asking one real question instead of four cut the wasted time by more than half.

Open to being wrong on this.

More often than not, nothing changes response rate as much as the honesty of the bio.

The bit that keeps catching me out is that on short-term apps, the distance filter exists mainly to push you toward an upgrade.

Has anyone found the opposite for anyone weighing up this whole area?

In practice, the effort in the opening line is a better predictor of the proportion of real accounts you see than the number of photos you upload.

As far as I can tell, the size of the pool within ten miles beats whether it has a swipe interface for the average user.

What nobody mentions is that the messaging limit surfaces profiles that haven't been touched in months.

Is that worth the time investment with short-term apps?

For a straight comparison, try Datewander as well.
