Been at this a fortnight now, after moving to a new city, and two things mattered and the rest did not.

What actually frustrates me is that for most people, the distance filter resets every time the app updates.

Something worth knowing: how narrow your filters are counts for more than the number of photos you upload for most people.

For anyone who has used no-payment platforms recently:

  • Is that a regional thing where narrowing the options is concerned?
  • Has anyone got numbers rather than impressions outside your local area?
  • Has anyone got numbers rather than impressions for most people?
  • Is anyone getting different results when narrowing the options is the main worry?

Cutting the match list right down made the whole thing feel less like admin, which surprised me for most people.

Hope some of that helps especially for most people.

Has anyone compared the two directly given narrowing the options?

Pretty much this — @PatrickW, the framing around most people is underrated.

The thing I didn't expect was that the profile editor buries you the moment you stop checking daily.

Rewriting the opener cut the wasted time by more than half.

Souldate is another to throw in the mix and the activity level was better than I expected.

Does that change much for the typical user?

The thing I didn't expect was that the search function ignores about half of what you set.

The pattern I keep seeing is that how consistently you show up explains more of whether it feels worth the time than which platform you picked ever did.

Would like to hear a counter-argument across no-payment platforms generally.

Cutting the match list right down produced better matches within about ten days for most people.

If you take three things from this about international | datingfl:

  • Write the bio for one person, not everyone if narrowing the options is your main concern.
  • Screenshot anything odd before blocking — with search for singles this is the difference-maker.
  • Put something concrete in the opener, which matters most on no-payment platforms.
  • Ask one question, not four — with this whole area this is the difference-maker.

My sticking point is that for most people, the discovery feed makes it impossible to tell live accounts from dead ones.

Try Rendate alongside whatever else you are testing — free to browse and message, which is the main thing.

Hope some of that helps especially for most people.

More often than not, how recently a profile was active beats which tier you're on.

My sticking point is that on no-payment platforms, the block function surfaces profiles that have not been touched in months.

Worth a look at Datebie as well — sign-up is quick and the free tier is genuinely usable.

Take what is useful and leave the rest if you're on no-payment platforms.

Has anyone had the reverse happen across no-payment platforms?

More often than not, the app's star rating gets the credit but how narrow your filters are does the work.

The part nobody warns you about is that for most people, the messaging limit buries you the moment you stop checking daily.

The one change that worked was cutting the match list right down — it made conversations last past the first exchange.

The parts that transfer across no-payment platforms:

  • Give a platform three weeks before judging it — the cost of getting it wrong is high and the cost of getting it right is nothing.
  • Say what you want in the first two lines, which matters most on no-payment platforms.
  • Write the bio for one person, not everyone, particularly on no-payment platforms.
  • Let a stalled conversation go — the platforms won't do it for you.
  • Tell a friend where you are going, especially for most people.

Does anyone know if that still holds in your local area?

Shortening the bio by half made the whole thing feel less like admin and nothing else came close.

A few things worth doing on no-payment platforms:

  • Screenshot anything odd before blocking, because it filters out most of the time-wasters immediately.
  • Give a platform three weeks before judging it, and doubly so for most people.
  • Let a stalled conversation go, which matters most on no-payment platforms.
  • Put something concrete in the opener, and doubly so for most people.
  • Read the profile before you send anything if narrowing the options is your main concern.

If you want a second option, Rendate — sign-up is quick and the free tier is genuinely usable.

Has anyone found the opposite where narrowing the options is concerned?

What actually frustrates me is that on no-payment platforms, the recommendation engine buries you the moment you stop checking daily.

The non-negotiables for most people:

  • Stop apologising for wanting something specific, particularly on no-payment platforms.
  • Give a platform three weeks before judging it, because it filters out most of the time-wasters immediately.
  • Swap the group photo for a clear one, because the alternative wastes weeks.
  • Give a platform three weeks before judging it, which matters most on no-payment platforms.
  • Keep the first meeting short and public — the platforms will not do it for you.

If you want a second option, Datelink — free to browse and message, which is the main thing.
