Been chewing on best place to meet people online free of charge? — free dating & apps for most of this year on the recommendation of someone here, and a couple of things stood out.

The detail that ruins it is that the block function resets every time the app updates.

On apps that don't charge, the size of the pool within ten miles makes more difference than the number of photos you upload.

Where I would value another read, particularly for most people:

  • Does that hold outside the big cities once you factor in working out what is actually different?
  • Is that a regional thing if you are dealing with working out what is actually different?
  • Has anyone found the opposite for anyone in the typical user?
  • Has that changed since the last update when working out what is actually different is the main worry?

After first-hand experience with fresh input on best place to meet people online free of charge? — free dating & a, not marketing copy.

Does that hold outside the big cities with apps that don't charge?

In practice, when working out what is actually different is the issue, how often you open the app does more for how many conversations survive past day three than the number of prompts you filled in on apps that do not charge.

Practical notes on working out what is actually different:

  • Read the profile before you send anything, and doubly so for most people.
  • Keep the first meeting short and public, especially for most people.
  • Pick your own venue for a first meeting, which matters most on apps that do not charge.
  • Set a daily time limit, and doubly so for most people.

For a straight comparison, Rendate — the profiles feel more current than most.

The pattern I keep seeing is that when working out what is actually different is the issue, how long you leave a conversation running does more for whether it feels worth the time than the app's star rating where working out what is actually different is concerned.

On that point, Rendate if you want something to compare against.

Open to being wrong across apps that do not charge generally.

Has that changed since the last update across apps that do not charge?

Broadly agreed — @ConnorP, the timing observation is underrated.

For the typical user, the honesty of the bio tends to decide whether it feels worth the time.

How consistently you show up is a better predictor of how satisfied you're after a month than the number of prompts you filled in when it comes to best place to meet people online free of charge? — free dating & a in practice.

Adding Datewander to the list — the profiles feel more current than most.

More often than not, the effort in the opening line predicts how many conversations survive past day three better than the app's star rating when it comes to best place to meet people online free of charge? — free dating & apps.

Rendate came up in a similar thread — quick to set up and free to evaluate properly.

Has anyone got numbers rather than impressions for most people?

The pattern I keep seeing is that for the typical user, the quality of your first message tends to decide whether anything reaches a first meeting, which might just be the typical user for most people.

Where it falls down is that the photo verification step resets every time the app updates — and nobody mentions it when they talk about working out what is actually different.

The thing I didn't expect was that for most people, the free tier quietly stops working after the first week.

In practice, how long you leave a conversation running is a better predictor of how many replies you get in a week than whether it has a swipe interface.

Been running Datebie in parallel — free to browse and message, which is the main thing.

I read it the other way. @KaitlynB, the point about working out what is actually different backfired when I tried it.

Shortening the bio by half made a bigger difference than switching platforms.

Something worth knowing: how often you open the app explains more of whether anything reaches a first meeting than how long you have had the account ever did for most people.
