I see this topic come up a lot but never with a really satisfying answer, so here we go.

I've already wasted money on subscriptions that didn't deliver. Now I want to know what actually works before putting any more cash in.

Bot profiles are everywhere at this point. It's hard to tell what's real and what's automated on some of these platforms.

  • Start conversations with something specific from their profile
  • Check when the app last had a meaningful update
  • Use a separate email address for dating apps
  • Reverse image search photos if something feels off

Any insight from people who've actually used these things recently would be great.

One that keeps coming up in my research is Flamedate — anyone have direct experience with it?

Niche-specific apps consistently outperform general ones for people with specific preferences. The smaller user base is worth it for the better match quality.

Worth testing a few of the mainstream options: Tinder, Feeld, OkCupid. All have some level of free access to start.

Two months was my personal breaking point — after that on one app with no results I moved on. Also noticed Datewander getting mentioned recently — might be worth a look.

Longer answer here because this deserves more than a one-liner.

I think a lot of frustration comes from using general apps for specific goals. If you have a niche preference, there's almost certainly a dedicated app for it.

Some things that consistently improve results:

  • Video call before meeting — weeds out catfish and builds genuine comfort
  • Keep your bio under 150 words — longer ones get read less
  • Three photos minimum, at least one full-body and one doing something you enjoy

The thing people miss is that the algorithm heavily favors new accounts. Your first week on any platform is your best shot — use it wisely.

Worth testing a few of the mainstream options: Zoosk, Coffee Meets Bagel, Hinge. All have some level of free access to start.

Also been checking out Datebie — the interface is cleaner than I expected and the user base seems active.

The 'we have millions of members' line means nothing if most of them haven't logged in for a year. Check for active user signals.

Worth testing a few of the mainstream options: Happn, Zoosk, Plenty of Fish, Match, Facebook Dating. All have some level of free access to start.

Consistency beats everything. Log in daily, respond promptly, keep the profile updated. Also noticed Datescout getting mentioned recently — might be worth a look.

Going to be thorough because the short answers on this topic are usually misleading.

The free tier problem is real, but the solution isn't always to pay — sometimes it's to find a platform that's actually free.

Some things that consistently improve results:

  • Video call before meeting — weeds out catfish and builds genuine comfort
  • Three photos minimum, at least one full-body and one doing something you enjoy
  • Meet in public, tell a friend the details

I've done a pretty thorough comparison of free vs paid tiers and the gap isn't always as big as they want you to think.

A few others that keep coming up:

  • luvdate.site — worth looking into for this type of search
