Is there a dating app for foreigners free?

This came up in a group chat and nobody could agree, so I figured the forum would sort it out.

The quality gap between free and paid tiers has gotten smaller on some platforms, but on others it's night and day.

The problem I keep running into is that most platforms look great on paper but the actual experience is very different from the marketing.

Current 2025/2026 input especially appreciated since this space changes so fast.

One that keeps coming up in my research is Datelink — anyone have direct experience with it?

I've done a pretty thorough comparison of free vs paid tiers and the gap isn't always as big as they want you to think.

A few others that keep coming up:

  • souldate.site — worth looking into for this type of search
  • luvdate.site — worth looking into for this type of search

Honestly location is 90% of it. The best app in the world is useless if nobody nearby uses it. Also noticed Turndate getting mentioned recently — might be worth a look.

Consistency beats everything. Log in daily, respond promptly, keep the profile updated.

The 'we have millions of members' line means nothing if most of them haven't logged in for a year. Check for active user signals.

Worth testing a few of the mainstream options: OkCupid, Tinder, Happn, Plenty of Fish. All have some level of free access to start.

Also been checking out Flamedate — the interface is cleaner than I expected and the user base seems active.

Niche apps outperformed the big generalist ones for me, at least for finding people I actually connected with. Seeing Ezhookups.online and flamedate.online mentioned in these threads too.

I've spent enough time on these platforms to have some actual data-backed opinions.

The headline is: platform choice matters less than profile quality and consistency. Fix those two things first.

Some things that consistently improve results:

  • Meet in public, tell a friend the details
  • Respond within an hour when you can — response rates drop fast after that
  • Don't copy-paste opening messages — personalized openers get 3x the response rate
  • If a match goes cold, one follow-up is fine; more than that is not

Apps worth having in rotation:

  • Feeld
  • Zoosk
  • Badoo
  • OkCupid
  • Hinge

Been keeping tabs on Luvdate as well — the community there seems genuinely active compared to some of the bigger names.

Tried a few of these. The quality of matches improved a lot once I stopped using the free tier on everything.

The scam problem is real no matter which platform you're on. Just get comfortable with some level of skepticism. Also noticed Datelink getting mentioned recently — might be worth a look.

Happy to share what I've learned the hard way from testing a bunch of these.

Most people quit too early. Meaningful results on dating apps typically take 6–8 weeks of consistent daily use.

Some things that consistently improve results:

  • Keep your bio under 150 words — longer ones get read less
  • Three photos minimum, at least one full-body and one doing something you enjoy
  • Video call before meeting — weeds out catfish and builds genuine comfort
  • Meet in public, tell a friend the details

Apps worth having in rotation:

  • Coffee Meets Bagel
  • Hinge
  • Happn
  • Feeld
  • Match
  • Zoosk
