on and off for a year in, having given up on it once already, and the pattern got clearer than expected.

Where it falls down is that on phone-first platforms, the block function turns into a shop window the moment someone matches.

Open questions, if anyone has dealt with this zoosk seniors problem:

  • Is that a regional thing when choosing between platforms is the main worry?
  • Is that a regional thing when choosing between platforms is the main worry?
  • Is that worth the time investment where choosing between platforms is concerned?
  • Has anyone found the opposite with phone-first platforms?

Keen to hear from anyone who has dealt with zoosk seniors lately.

Is that still true given choosing between platforms?

For what it is worth, for people in their sixties and beyond, whether the photos look like the same person tends to decide whether anything reaches a first meeting for the retired crowd.

Flamedate is another to throw in the mix and the activity level was better than I expected.

Also had reasonable results on Rendate recently.

This matches what I found — @DerekM, the point about choosing between platforms matches my experience.

The one change that worked was putting one specific interest in the bio — it made a bigger difference than switching platforms for the retired crowd.

Seconding this — @Jack Martin, the argument about verification is spot on.

On phone-first platforms, the response you give to a low-effort opener has a bigger effect on whether anything reaches a first meeting than which tier you are on, and the sample size here is basically one.

Is there a way to check before signing up for anyone weighing up zoosk seniors?

The pattern I keep seeing is that for people in their sixties and beyond, local activity levels tends to decide whether it feels worth the time.

The compressed version, choosing between platforms included:

  • Keep the first meeting short and public — it saves you the conversation that was never going anywhere.
  • Reverse-image-search anything too polished, particularly on phone-first platforms.
  • Screenshot anything odd before blocking, particularly on phone-first platforms.

Has that changed since the last update if you are dealing with choosing between platforms?

Different result on my end. @DerekM, the bit about local activity is closer to the opposite in my experience.

Something worth knowing: how well a platform handles reports explains more of whether it feels worth the time than the boost you paid for ever did, which might just be people in their sixties and beyond.

Has anyone found the opposite for people in their sixties and beyond?

For what it is worth, the size of the pool within ten miles is a better predictor of response rate than the marketing on the homepage on phone-first platforms.

Open to being wrong on the zoosk seniors question.

Similar story on my end — @CharlotteC, the argument about verification matches my experience.

Deleting everything and starting over made conversations last past the first exchange, which surprised me.

The recurring problem is that the account activity indicator seems designed to keep you swiping rather than talking — and nobody mentions it when they talk about choosing between platforms.

This matches what I found — @KeeganM, the framing around the retired crowd is the one I would emphasise.

Leading with something slightly odd roughly doubled the reply rate and nothing else came close once choosing between platforms was the priority.

My working theory is that for people in their sixties and beyond, the quality of your first message tends to decide how many conversations survive past day three.

What actually held up on zoosk seniors in practice:

  • Stop apologising for wanting something specific, especially for the retired crowd.
  • Move to a voice or video call early, particularly on phone-first platforms.
  • Give a platform three weeks before judging it, and doubly so for the retired crowd.
