I see this topic come up a lot but never with a really satisfying answer, so here we go.

Bot profiles are everywhere at this point. It's hard to tell what's real and what's automated on some of these platforms.

Privacy is a serious concern for me. Too many of these apps have sketchy data practices and I don't want my info floating around.

The scam problem is real no matter which platform you're on. Just get comfortable with some level of skepticism. Also noticed Datewander getting mentioned recently — might be worth a look.

Niche-specific apps consistently outperform general ones for people with specific preferences. The smaller user base is worth it for the better match quality.

Free messaging has basically disappeared from most big platforms. If that's a dealbreaker, the list gets short fast. Also noticed Souldate getting mentioned recently — might be worth a look.

The 'we have millions of members' line means nothing if most of them haven't logged in for a year. Check for active user signals.

Worth testing a few of the mainstream options: Zoosk, Plenty of Fish, Coffee Meets Bagel, Happn. All have some level of free access to start.

Also been checking out Datedesire — the interface is cleaner than I expected and the user base seems active.

Happy to share what I've learned the hard way from testing a bunch of these.

Most people quit too early. Meaningful results on dating apps typically take 6–8 weeks of consistent daily use.

Some things that consistently improve results:

  • Respond within an hour when you can — response rates drop fast after that
  • Three photos minimum, at least one full-body and one doing something you enjoy
  • Meet in public, tell a friend the details
  • Video call before meeting — weeds out catfish and builds genuine comfort

Longer answer here because this deserves more than a one-liner.

The headline is: platform choice matters less than profile quality and consistency. Fix those two things first.

Some things that consistently improve results:

  • Respond within an hour when you can — response rates drop fast after that
  • Three photos minimum, at least one full-body and one doing something you enjoy
  • Meet in public, tell a friend the details
  • Don't copy-paste opening messages — personalized openers get 3x the response rate

Been keeping tabs on Turndate as well — the community there seems genuinely active compared to some of the bigger names.

Niche apps outperformed the big generalist ones for me, at least for finding people I actually connected with.

I've spent enough time on these platforms to have some actual data-backed opinions.

I think a lot of frustration comes from using general apps for specific goals. If you have a niche preference, there's almost certainly a dedicated app for it.

Some things that consistently improve results:

  • If a match goes cold, one follow-up is fine; more than that is not
  • Three photos minimum, at least one full-body and one doing something you enjoy
  • Respond within an hour when you can — response rates drop fast after that

Apps worth having in rotation:

  • Tinder
  • Hinge
  • OkCupid
  • Match
  • Coffee Meets Bagel

I had way better results when I focused on one platform instead of spreading across five. Seeing datewander.site and flamedate.online mentioned in these threads too.
